Book XVI: How Telemachus Met His Father

Athena instructs Odysseus to reveal his identity to Telemachus and to plan their revenge on the suitors. Eumaeus tells Penelope that Telemachus has returned safely to Ithaca. When the suitors, led by Antinoos, learn that their plan to kill Telemachus has failed; they plot to kill him another way.

Telemachus calls Eumaeus “dear friend” because He welcomed some kind of stranger (odysseus).
Athena cast around his chest a well-washed cloak and tunic, then enhanced his hieght and made him yonger and more lithe; his face grew bronzed again, his cheeks more full; the beard upon his chin became blue-black.
Telemachus thinks Odysseus is some demon.
They plan to remove the suitors spears to a different place, and leave two spears and axes to themselves.
Penelope scolds Antinoos because of a plan to kill her son.

1)Telemachus calls Eumaues a dear friend because the two of them were close and Eumaeus was very loyal to Telemachus’ father, Odysseus.
2)First, she turned Odysseus onto an old beggar, then a nicely dressed young man, but later changed him into an old man again.
3)Telemachus thinks Odysseus is a demon because he changed his form from an old beggar to a young man.
4)Odysseus and Telemachus plan to take away the suitors’ weapons and get them drunk.
5)Penelope scolds Antinoos and the suitors because they had planned to kill Telemachus, her son. Eurymachus uses this to get close to Penelope by encoraging her that telemachus would not be harmed. Meanwhile Eurymachus planned and plotted Telemachus’ death.

1. Teemachus called Eumaeus a dear friend because when they were growing up they were close. And Eumaeus is very loyal to him.
2. At first she changed bright Odysseus in to an old dude, then to a well dressed young man, and then back to an old begger.
3. Telemachus thinks that he is a god or that he is working with a god because he changes to an old man with no money and then to a well dressed young man.
4. Both father and son want to take the weponds away from the suitors and then give them a lot of wine and get them drunk, and kill them all.
5. Penelope scolds antinoos because the suitors are trying to kill Telemachus, and penelope said that is anyone hurts him they will see a lot of dark red blood.

1. Telemachus calls Eumaeus “dear friend” because Eumaeus has been in Telemachus’s family since he was a child, so they were very close and friends. Eumaeus was very loyal to Odysseus and his whole family.
2. Some of the appearance changes done to Odysseus by Athena were: she enhanced his height, cast a well washed cloak and tunic around his chest, made his face look more bronzed, his cheeks were made more full, made his beard more blue-black and made him look younger and more lithe.
3. When Athena removes Odysseus’s disguise, Telemachus thinks Odysseus is a god.
4. Odysseus and Telemachus plan to kill all the suitors by first taking all their weapons away, then gather a small army to kill them all!
5. Penelope’s confrontation with Antinoos was feirce, because she was scolding him the whole time. Telling him that she knew how he wanted to kill her son and take over her house.

2. Athena touched him with her wand and she made him taller and much more younger and more lithe; he became more bronze, his cheeks more full his beard more black and cast around his chest a well-washed clock and tunic.
3. Telemachus thinks Odysseus is a god because he is so handsome and so young and how he changed in like in a couple changes.
4. Odysseus and Telemachus plan is to get them drunk and to kill all of the suitors but they are outnumbered and they need a lot of reinforcements, and they will have help from Athena and Zeus.
5. Penelope’s confrontation with Antinoos was because she knows that they plan to kill Telemachus and she can’t have that, and also they are eating her goods and she had enough, but mostly it’s because they plan to kill her son.
