3. Odyseus proves his identity by shooting the arrow through the twelve axes and that will prove that he is he real Odysseus.

2. The men dont want Odysseus to string the bow because if he strings it and succededs, it will make the suitors look like fools and weaklings, they would be embarrassed to be beaten by an old looking man.
